• BIO:
Dale Toliver is an instrumental Jazz guitarist who has been building his name on many platforms as he performs Jazz and original arrangements with his band known as “The Dale Toliver Band”.

Born March 11, 1960 in Buffalo, New York, Dale Toliver began his musical career at the age of nine. Playing the drums for church services and the choir, he developed a musical foundation and skills that would carry him through all of his endeavors. Young Toliver progressed from playing the drums to electric bass and eventually settled on the guitar. He has played the guitar since the age of 17 and has played every kind of music from country to rock to funk and jazz. In the 70’s and 80’s, Toliver traveled across the country as a lead guitarist for the “Moonshine” and “Crosswinds” bands.

Through his musical journey, Dale had various advisors who influenced his style of playing such as Zaindre Yarbrough, O’dell Ross, and Son Smith, the brother of the legendary Dr. Lonnie Smith. While in Los Angeles, California, Toliver studied at the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT), the Dick Grove Music School and the Los Angeles Community College (LACC). He trained privately with mentors Joe Pass while at GIT, with author of "Sight Melodies 1", Brent Block, at Dick Grove Music School and Jazz Guitar Chairman of the World, Steve Brown, at Ithaca College.

Aspiring towards entrepreneurship in 1997, Mr. Toliver launched his own music television show titled “Jazz at Rico’s” with Fox Network and later transitioned to WETM Channel 18 with NBC. In 2000 & 2001, Dale Toliver's Trio was nominated in Buffalo's Music Awards for small jazz bands. Sharing his musical passion and unique expression, Toliver was the musical director for the Billie Holiday Story given by Ujima Theatre Company and performed the “Journey of the Guitar” for the Langston Hughes Center both in Buffalo, New York. Later, Dale performed the “Journey of the Guitar” for Buffalo’s own Public Broadcast Station WNED TV Channel 17.

Dale’s growth musically and professionally is attained through practice and performing regularly. The combination of these practices has lead Toliver to teach music and become an author of his 4 part book “Lesson Guide 1 for Guitar: Building Chops, Dexterity, and Execution”. In 2018, he performed for Villa Maria College's "Guitar Summit" in Cheektowaga, New York. Avancing within his profession, Dale has recorded with fellow artist and has three CD’s of his own.

As a solo artist, Dale has performed at a wide range of venues from the historical Colored Musicians Club in Buffalo, New York to the Seneca Niagara Resorts & Casino in Niagara Falls, New York to local/regional festivals and international tourist attractions such as Home of the Original Chicken Wings, the Anchor Bar. Toliver’s distinctive sound has opened many doors for him to play with local bands across Western New York and many high esteemed musicians such as the worlds most recorded drummer Bernard Purdie, Norman Connors, The Trammps, Crown Heights Affair, BT Express, King Floyd, Lucky Peterson, James Peterson, Juini Booth, Abdul-Rahman Qadir, Sabu Adeyola, Al Tinney, Linda Clifford, Harold Land Jr, Earl Roberson, Bilal Nugravee, Billy Nunn and many more.
