About Joyce Spencer
Joyce Spencer is a distinguished saxophonist, flutist, and vocalist hailing from Dallas, Texas. She is recognized for her extensive range of musical influences, styles, and genres, which encompass traditional and contemporary jazz, classical, R&B, funk, fusion, blues, pop, and Gospel/Christian music. The diverse musical environment of her upbringing has significantly contributed to her ability to blend various styles, enhancing her songwriting and performance capabilities. Whether performing lively tunes, smooth jazz, or heartfelt ballads, Joyce delivers exceptional musical experiences through her mastery of the saxophone (soprano, alto, and tenor), flute, and her vocal talents, ensuring a captivating experience for her audience.
Joyce's academic credentials include a bachelor's degree in instrumental music education, during which she honed her skills in saxophone and flute, as well as in classical and jazz music, theater, and radio and television broadcasting. After spending two decades in the corporate sector, she returned to her musical roots with unwavering resolve as an independent artist. She took the initiative to compose and produce her debut album, "Sweet Dreams," and has since released several additional projects, including "Many Colors," "It's Christmas Time," "Hidden Treasures", and one single titled "Solace".
She has performed at numerous music festivals, concerts, churches, and corporate events across the United States, both as a lead artist and in collaboration with other artists and bands such as Yarbrough & Peoples, Jazz in Pink, i.Tina, and Satin Dolls. Her music is being broadcast on radio stations worldwide. She has received various awards and accolades, including the GHP Radio Music Award for Best Groove Sax, the NAACP Music Award in Garland, TX, and the title of Black Women in Jazz Saxophonist of the Year. Additionally, her work has been recognized as Sound Fusion Radio's Song of the Week, Sassy Radio's Top 20, and she has appeared in the top 30 of SmoothJazz.com. She has also received Grammy consideration for a collaboration with David McLorren, and has been featured in the WSRN-DB Jazz Oasis Top 10, as well as the Radio Indie Alliance Top 10 and the Radio Indie International Network Top 10 chart, where she was named Artist of the Week.
Joyce has also been highlighted in various media outlets, including a front cover feature in Coffee Talk Jazz, as well as Basile Weekly Newspaper, Trinity River Blues Society, The Debbie Burke Jazz Blog, Woodshed Jazz Magazine, and Amazing Smooth and Jazz Radio. Among her other significant awards and nominations are the Coffee Talk Jazz Radio "Heart & Soul Instrumental" Award, ASCAPLUS Awards Panel Recognition, and the Akedemia Award for Best Funk Song for "Many Colors." She has also been nominated for the South Florida Gospel Music Awards, Best Female Jazz Flutist, and Best Producer/Arranger/Composer by Black Women in Jazz and Fine Arts.
