About Pennies from Heaven
Band Members Biography:
Ra Elsmore: Lead Vocals & Percussion
formed “Pennies from Heaven” August 2017, on returning from NZ after the loss of her sister. The inspiration stemmed from the realization that life is too short, to not pursue your dreams regardless of age, creed or gender. Pennies from Heaven originally was typed as an all-girl covers band and evolved into what is today. Ra has been in the music industry all her life and migrated to Australia from NZ in the early 90’s. Influences are Stevie Wonder, Joe Cocker, Tina Turner and Gladys Knight. Never afraid to take on a challenge, the repertoire we choose is for everyone to enjoy and is updated regularly.
Ben Harper: Drummer & vocals
Ben is our youngest member of the band, and the most learned. Musically trained in the Jazz field and that of classical music. When not with Pennies from Heaven, Ben drums for International Tribute Shows including (ABBA, Michael Jackson & Beatles) that are performed in Theatres in USA, Johannesburg, New Zealand, Australia, Canada. Don’t let Bens age fool you, he is wise beyond years and is the drive of “Pennies from Heaven” when he is not on tour. Influences include Jeff Porcaro.
Chris Horton: Lead Guitarist & vocals
Chris is musically trained in Jazz and Classical music. …. This lead guitarist thrives on challenges and enjoys the different mediums the band offers. His style of play paints a colourful picture of the songs portrayed. In his spare time Chris dabbles with other instruments including Sax, Piano and Ukuleles.
Chris is the wheels transporting “Pennies from Heaven” with melodic lead lines, putting his twist on things….
Jesse Broz: Bass Guitarist
American born in Belgrade Maine and influenced by many. Jesse played on tour in the U.S for songwriter artist Olivia Ruth Band, and has played bass for various bands on the Sunshine coast, since his arrival in Australia, before settling in Gladstone. Jesse’s passion for his instrument is outstanding, and shows with his groove on the Bass Guitar, which is the engine room of “Pennies from Heaven”
